    01 / How it works

    Three keys you already know

Windows already uses Shift, Ctrl and Alt while you drag. Satsuma listens for them, opens a wheel right under the pointer, and gets out of the way the moment you let go of the key.

    Shift

    Convert

Every format that makes sense for what you're holding. HEIC to JPG, MOV to MP4, a clip to a GIF, a PDF to images.

    the one you'll use daily

    Ctrl

    Tools

Quick edits that save a copy. Compress a video for chat, merge PDFs, shrink a photo, strip its location data, zip a folder.

    originals never change

    Alt

    Actions

The right-click stuff without letting go: copy, move, copy the path, share, open a terminal there, or park it in Float.

    float is underrated

    02 / Formats

Reads almost anything on your drive

Drag a few files at once and the wheel only shows what works for all of them.

    Safe

    Your original stays put

Shift normally means "move" in Explorer. Satsuma always copies, so the file you dragged never goes anywhere.

    Tidy

    Nothing gets overwritten

If beach.png exists you get beach (1).png. Edits get a label, like trip (compressed).mp4.

    Private

    Works offline

Every conversion runs on your PC. No uploads, no account, and the code is open for anyone to check.

    Careful

    Sweats the small stuff

Animated GIFs stay animated, phone photos come out the right way up, and odd-sized screen recordings still convert.

    Get Satsuma

One zip. Nothing to install, and .NET and ffmpeg come bundled.

    1. Unblock the zip. Right-click it, choose Properties, tick Unblock, then OK.
    2. Extract it somewhere you'll keep it. Your Documents folder is fine. Don't run it from inside the zip.
    3. Open Satsuma.exe. If you see "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. That shows up because the app isn't code-signed yet.
    4. Start dragging. It lives in your system tray. Grab a file, hold Shift, let go on a slice.

    04 / FAQs

    Questions people ask

Why does Windows warn me when I open it?

SmartScreen warns about any app that isn't code-signed yet and that it hasn't seen many times. Click More info, then Run anyway. Unblocking the zip before you extract it skips some of these warnings.

Does it watch everything I do?

It watches the mouse for one thing: a drag with Shift, Ctrl or Alt held. It never blocks or records input, and it never sends anything anywhere. Some antivirus tools get nervous about apps that watch the mouse at all, which is why a few of them flag it.

Do I need to be online?

No. Every conversion happens on your PC, including video and audio, through a copy of ffmpeg that comes in the zip.

    Where do converted files go?

Right next to the original, by default. You can pick one folder for everything in settings instead. Click the tray icon to open them.

    Is it free?

Yes, free and open source under the MIT license. The code is on GitHub, and bug reports, ideas and pull requests are welcome there.

    Is this Tangerine for Mac?

No. Satsuma is an independent Windows app inspired by the same drag-and-hold idea. It isn't affiliated with Tangerine or LEAP STUDIO.
